Back In Action

This blog feels like such a distant memory to me now. But I’m not here to get sentimental with you. I’m here to say, that I’m back and will be updating the blog.

Lately, I’ve been trying to figure out what I want to do with my life. And honestly, I still have no clue. I have ideas of what I would like to do, but nothing has grabbed me. Nothing has been worthy of pursuing. Except writing. Writing is the one passion that I would gladly do without getting paid. That and making music. I do them both and don’t get paid and I’m okay with that.

So, here we go. In this blog, I will be writing about music, music videos, news stories that interest me and random topics that I want to explore. Will anyone read this blog? Probably not. But I’m okay with that too.

So to start things off, here’s a music video from a band I’ve been listening to a lot lately. They are called The Sidekicks and the song is titled, “Everything in Twos.” Enjoy. And I hope you’ll be back.

Music Video of the Week- Be Your Own Pet

It’s been a while since I’ve graced this blog with my presence. It’s been a busy two months, and unfortunately this blog was put on the back burner. However, the posts shall continue whether you like it or not.

Be Your Own Pet

Be Your Own Pet

This week’s music video comes from a band that I recently discovered even though they broke up a few years ago. Once again, I’m late to the party. It’s like high school all over again. Just kidding, I was never invited to parties in high school…

That’s neither here nor there. This week’s I have chosen the band, Be Your Own Pet. This punk/garage band came to us from the sweet dwellings of Nashville, Tennessee. Which is weird, because the lead singer is the only Ten I See. In other words, she’s attractive.

Anyways, here is there video for the song, Adventure. Enjoy yourselves.

Music Video of the Week- Bright Eyes

When an artist is compared to the likes of Bob Dylan, they must be doing something right. That’s what first drew me to the band, Bright Eyes.

Bright Eyes

Bright Eyes

After listening to multiple songs over and over, I really began to respect and admire this band. At the helm, is Conor Oberst, who plays guitar and handles lead vocals. His shaky, folk style and heartfelt lyrics are really quite a combination.

The songs that drew me to this band the most were Lua, At The Bottom of Everything and Landlocked Blues. If you haven’t heard these tunes, then I highly recommend you check them out after you check out this week’s video.

The video I chose to share is from their record, Casadega, and the song is called Four Winds.

I love this video because it shows the band slowly getting booed of stage while still delivering an amazing performance. I thought it was pretty comical.

So here’s the video, Four Winds, by Bright Eyes.

If you know any other bands similar to Bright Eyes, please let me know about them in the comments section.

Music Video of the Week- The Rocket Summer

Whenever I’m feeling kind of down and out, there is always one band I can count on to put me in a good mood and that’s The Rocket Summer. Not only is it great music, but I also have a lot of respect for the man behind it all, Bryce Avary.

The Rocket Summer

Bryce Avary from The Rocket Summer.

The Rocket Summer is a solo project started by Bryce Avery. He plays multiple instruments, writes and produces every song that is on his albums. He’s creative and always has a positive message within his songs, which is refreshing.

He has released 5 studio albums along with several EPs. This week’s video is from his latest album, Life Will Write The Words. The song is called 200,000 and is one of my favorite songs he has done. This video is also cool because you get to see Bryce play all kinds of instruments and see just how talented he really is.

Check it out.

Do you know of any artists similar to The Rocket Summer? If so, tell me about them in the comments.

Music Video of the Week- Rooney

This week, I’ve chosen a band that I’ve liked for a few years now. Named after the principal from Ferris Bueller’s Day Off, (Ed Rooney) the band, Rooney is this week’s pick.

The cool thing about this band is there sound. I really enjoy there British invasion rock type feel. With their shag haircuts, catchy melodies and rocking guitars, this is one band you should definitely check out.

The video I have chosen is called, I’m Shakin’, off of their first album. Enjoy!

If you know of any other bands that are similar to this one, let me know about them in the comments!

Music Video of the Week- Macklemore

I don’t listen to a lot of rap music. Every now and then there is a song from the genre that I will enjoy. So, this week, I’ve surprised myself by picking an indie rapper by the name of Macklemore.

Macklemore

Macklemore

This guy released his first studio album back in October of 2012. I’m pretty sure that I’m a little late jumping on the bandwagon since his music video, Thrift Shop, has been viewed about 50 million times.

Here’s the video for Thrift Shop and I hope you enjoy it as much as I have. Good luck getting it out of your head.

Do you know of any artists similar to this one that I should know about? If so, tell me about them in the comments section.

Music Video of the Week- The Subways

To start off the New Year, I thought I would go with a song that is fun, energetic and quite catchy. This week’s video is from the band, The Subways, and the song is called Shake, Shake.

The Subways

The Subways

The Subways are an indie band from England that released their first album back in 2005, called Young For Eternity. The song they are mostly known for is Oh Yeah.

Throughout their career, they have released 3 studio albums. Even though they haven’t had much commercial success, they have built a big following playing at festivals and clubs.

I first heard of this band back in 2006 when they were playing with Taking Back Sunday on their summer tour. They were the first act, and they had a great sound. Recently, I started listening to all of their latest music and I haven’t been disappointed.

Check out the video:

Cheers.

Top 3 Everything Of 2012

Another year is coming to an end. It’s time to reflect and say goodbye to 2012 and look forward to all the things that 2013 has to offer. I’ve got my fingers crossed for hover crafts and teleportation.

Stop letting me down, science!

Since the year is coming to a close, I thought this would be a great opportunity to look back and share some of my top 3 favorite things. So get ready to go back in time and enjoy 2012 before she goes away.

Top 3 Superhero Movies- I’m going to divide the superhero movies from the other movies because there were some films that I didn’t want to leave out.

3. The Amazing Spider-Man– I enjoyed the new take on Spider-Man. I am a fan of the original films, and I really wish they would have made Spider-Man 4. However, I did enjoy the film more than I thought.

2. The Dark Knight Rises– Even though there were some holes in the story, you can’t deny that Nolan made the best Batman films ever. I think everyone knew that this movie wouldn’t surpass The Dark Knight, but it was still brilliant.

1. The Avengers– Finally! Marvel really got this movie right. Sure, Batman was good, but this movie was amazing. We finally got to see the film that Marvel has been building since Iron Man and it was worth the wait.

Top 3 Movies (non-superhero)

3. End of Watch– This cop drama/documentary style film was really enjoyable. The cast was great and the ending really hits you hard.

2. Looper– I thought this was a pretty good sci-fi film that really looked at time travel in a new way. Joseph Gordon-Levitt and Bruce Willis did a really good job with the characters. Also, Emily Blunt is beautiful and one of my favorite actresses.

1. Flight– Two words. Denzel Washington. This movie dealt with a pilot and his alcohol problems that led to him being investigated after he landed a faulty plane in a field. Washington’s performance was one of his best.

Also, just to clarify. There were some other movies that could have potentially made the list, but unfortunately I didn’t get a chance to see them quite yet.

Top 3 Albums

3. The Darkness- Hot Cakes

2. The Avett Brothers– The Carpenter

1. Jack White– Blunderbuss- Just a side note, I love how on his website, he has posted a few of the negative reviews.

Top 3 Songs

3. Psy- Gangnam Style

2. The Avett Brothers- Live and Die

1. Jack White- Sixteen Saltines

Top 3 Shows

3. Sons of Anarchy

2. The Walking Dead– Season 3 was pretty amazing. I loved how the group took over the prison and I was really happy that a certain character is no longer in the picture. The 2nd half of the season starts in February and I’m so excited.

1. Breaking Bad– This is quite possibly one of the best shows ever created. The writing and acting is brilliant and you really get sucked into the show. What’s really crazy is that you cheer for Walter White even when he starts turning into a monster. If you haven’t seen this show, I can’t tell you enough to jump on the train before it all ends this summer. You’ll love the ride.

Best. Show. Ever.

Music Video of the Week (Holiday Edition)- The Darkness

For the month of December, I’ve decided to only post my favorite holiday songs. Some of them may be old classics and others may be songs written by current artists. But you can rest assured that each video will fill you with the holiday spirit and make you question my taste in music. Sound fun?

The Darkness

The Darkness

The first song that I chose is from the band, The Darkness. These guys are a truly unique band. They are a group of guys from England who have really brought back guitar solos, long hair, high-pitched vocals and tight spandex pants. But in all seriousness, these guys are some amazingly talented gentlemen.

This band has been on my bucket-list of bands to see before I die. Luckily, I’m finally getting that chance in January when they play a show at The Masquerade in Atlanta.

Sure, The Darkness is known for their hits such as I Believe in a Thing Called Love, Get Your Hands Off of My Woman, and Growing on Me. However, they took the time to show off their Christmas spirit and wrote a song about holiday cheer and good times.

This week’s video is called Christmas Time. Check it out and enjoy.

What are some of your favorite holiday songs? Tell me about them in the comments section.

Music Video of the Week- Relient K

I started listening to Relient K back in 6th grade, which has been quite a long time. Well, at least to me. They’ve gone through some changes through the years, such as a new drummer and bassist. And along with that, their music has changed as well.

The band, Relient K

Relient K

Their first albums were filled with fun, pop-punk anthems like Sadie Hawkins Dance, Pressing On, Hello McFly and Marilyn Manson Ate My Girlfriend. Over the years, the sound has grown and become more serious.

In a way, this band holds a special place in my musical heart, because I feel like their music grew up with me. The albums Mmhmm, Five Score and Seven Years Ago and Forget and Not Slow Down really began to show the maturity of this band and the excellent lyrical work of their lead singer, Matthew Thiessen.

I’ve thoroughly enjoyed each and every album and have numerous songs memorized. Every time I hear one of their older songs, I can immediately connect it to a memory.

Their latest album is Forget and Not Slow Down, and it’s a really solid record. The only thing I don’t like is the fact that there were no music videos to come from the album. So I will just have to share some of their earlier work. But luckily, these guys are working on some new stuff. So maybe we’ll get some new music videos from them in the future. (fingers crossed.)

This week’s video is from Relient K and the songs is called Must Have Done Something Right. And even though I hate soccer, I find this to be a really fun video and song. Check it out.

Tell me about your favorite Relient K song in the comments section.
